Safety and Salvation are our prayers for every camper. Here’s how that came to be.

Of all the things that sustain our camps, prayers are the most vital. Our camps are a result of them. Each day we are blessed with an abundance of prayers rising to the Heavens on our behalf. Of all who prayed for our ministry, few were a more fiercely faithful than a humble little lady from the Ozarks named, Grace Mae Ettinger – who also happens to be my grandmother.
Passionate about our ministry, Grandma Grace prayed diligently and tirelessly for our camps from the time they were just a spark of an idea until she drew her very last breath. A devoted supporter, she often volunteered at camp, and one summer was assigned to the nurses’ station. As I passed by one afternoon, I found her sitting quietly alone in an empty station, seemingly lost in thought…… Read the rest of the story…Read the rest of the story…
Grandma Grace’s example taught us to believe mightily in the power of prayer. Today her inspiring words, SAFETY & SALVATION, appear on our business cards.
“Slow day, huh, Grandma?” I inquired. “Oh no, I’m quite busy”, she replied. I started to chuckle, but her look gave me pause. “Oh?” I said. “How so?” “Anthony”, she replied, “You have hundreds of kids here from all sorts of circumstances doing all sorts of things like climbing cliffs, riding bikes on rocky trails, and jumping into the river and all. I am praying for the SAFETY of each of them – and more importantly, I’m praying for their SALVATION. It takes me a bit of time, so I best get back to it”, she said, “Oh, and I pray for you, too.”
But I knew that already. Her faithfulness and lifetime of missionary, volunteer and church work is the stuff of legend. She was a light sleeper who put her insomnia to use by praying at night for each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with their spouses – by name – without missing a one.
Her 100th birthday was celebrated at Camp Eagle where the natural beauty of God’s creation reminded the old country gal of her Missouri Ozark Mountain roots. She went to her reward a few years later at age 103, and I’m quite certain that she faithfully intercedes for us with her Savior to this day. I am grateful that she lived long enough to see the fruits of her faithfulness and many of the blessings God has bestowed upon our camp ministry.
Grandma Grace’s example taught us to believe mightily in the power of prayer and to appreciate those who faithfully remember us in their daily pleadings. Her favorite verse was Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” She believed it, lived it and influenced our camps with her faithful example. Today her inspiring words, SAFETY and SALVATION, appear on our business cards and in presentations to those we ask to support our camp ministry.
To all who support our camps with your prayers, deeds, and resources, we THANK YOU. Your faithfulness and diligence are answers to our prayers. Our camps wouldn’t be where they are today without them.

Join our Glorieta Prayer Warriors.
We invite you to become one of our “Prayer Warriors”. This is not a formal organization, just an informal group who pray for our camps. You can join in just by praying for our ministry. If you feel led, we’d love for you to share who you are and how you came to pray for our camps. In any case, we are very, very grateful for your prayers on our behalf.
Blessings!
