Glorieta Wilderness
The Wilderness Program takes groups and individuals into the wilderness for discipleship, outdoor education, and guided adventures. We call our programs courses because they're driven by education and developing the individuals, rather than being just a mountain-top experience. We're offering not only a variety of courses in the Rocky Mountains bordering our property but also some of our flagship courses in Texas. We are constantly venturing all over the West as we add new courses and adventures to our program.

For The Groups
Most of our summer adventures are for groups from churches, youth programs, colleges, trail life, and simply friends gathering for something new and exciting that they won't soon forget. We begin by learning about the group; what goals they have and what they want to gain from the experience. Then we plan the adventure based on those things and the needs assessment filled out by the individuals. We are great at taking beginners on high adventure trips. All you need is a willing spirit.

Basecamp Trips

Basecamp Trips
Glorieta is a large camp with ten different programs that share resources and activities. This is a great thing for the wilderness program because when we're not on the trail we're able to play at camp. Most trips begin and end at basecamp which gives us access to the waterfront, zip lines, coffee shop and home-cooking.

Backpacking Trips

Backpacking Trips
We do a lot of backpacking all summer and we love it. We have a great list of routes on our property, in the surrounding National Forests, and in the surrounding Wilderness areas. We're able to fit the route to your group rather than forcing your group in over their heads.
The Glorieta Loop is a great place to start. The trailhead is right out the back door and the schedule is more activity driven, rather than a peak or distance being the goal. Although you're on the trail you still get to try new things like rock climbing and rappelling, or you can jump in the swimming hole and warm up in the sauna.
Our Pecos Wilderness Loop is another favorite. This loop includes Pecos Baldy and Truchas Peak as the big goals of the trip. Truchas is the second largest peak in New Mexico and to many the most spectacular. This beautiful wilderness area is one of the best kept secrets of New Mexico.

River and Whitewater

River and Whitewater
Cutting between mountain ranges in Northern New Mexico are the Rio Grande and Rio Chama with a ton of whitewater potential. We do everything from half-day thrills, celebrating a great backpacking trip to multi-day raft trips.
For remote paddling in duckies we go to the South Pecos River down in Texas. This river is one of the most pristine in the country. This trip can be 20, 40, or the full 60 miles. It won't be easy but there will certainly be more than enough reward. This trip is full of contrast: cool storms followed by hot sun, gentle currents lead to swift rapids, waking from a nap to cliff jump into the water and the final headwind leads to victory at the takeout! We do trips throughout the year for our Gap Year and Professional Semester; each trip can be tailored for your group.

Glorieta WIlderness Activities
We're not just a wilderness program; Glorieta is an incredible adventure camp for all ages and we have tons of activities. We can push your limits, have a blast, give you a chance to learn about yourself, and just relax all in the same morning. As we plan for your group we choose the activities that best meet your goals and fit your group. We treat every moment and experience as an opportunity and we do it with purpose, even if our purpose is pure fun. Check out our youtube channel to see what people are doing at Glorieta.

Semesters
more information
Professional Semester Courses
Our Semester courses are for people 18 and older who want to work in the outdoor industry. Students will spend most of the semester in the field learning hands-on, gaining personal experience, professional training, and earning certifications across the diversity of the industry. This program prepares participants to guide on a professional level and is a great stepping stone to a career in the outdoor industry or simply great summer jobs between semesters at college.
Course tuition is comparable to a semester at most state schools but also includes travel during the course, housing, and food. We emphasize decision making and risk management in every semester so that no matter where you guide you have a strong understanding of how to think and act like a professional guide. College credit is available through the course, if desired, and some of our participants have used our semester to fulfill an internship requirement, earning up to 13 hours on their transcript.
