Summer is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to make some plans! We know there are a lot of choices when it comes to summer activities, and it can be hard to determine which ones are right for your family.

Whether you have kids or teens (or both) at home, here are five reasons why camp is always a good idea.

1. To Get ‘Em Outside

It’s no secret that modern children are spending less time outdoors than any generation before. So while the concept of camp may be nothing new, we believe there’s a much greater need today for the good, old-fashioned remedy of getting kids outside. And it’s not just for the fresh air!

Numerous studies have shown that kids who spend time in nature are less stressed, more focused, more creative, and even more responsible. These positive outcomes align with our own motto – Changing Lives Through Adventure – and since adventure usually happens outside, that’s where you’ll find us!

From sun up, our campers are walking, hiking, swimming, rappelling, and biking. And by night, they’re often gathered around a campfire, gazing up at starry skies. In a nutshell: nature is good for them! And we’ve got plenty of it to share.

2. To Take Risks & Overcome Challenges, Safely

If you’re a parent, you know how tempting it can be to hover over the risks in your child’s life, simply because you love them! But kids need (and want) a safe place to try new things, to step out of their comfort zones, to unplug, and to overcome challenges… away from parental supervision. Where can they find that? Camp is the answer.

Here at Glorieta, we prioritize safety AND fun – but safety even more so. Our staff undergoes extensive training to ensure the safest possible facilitation of our activities, no matter how big or small the risk factor may seem. This means kids can grow in self-confidence and courage, and parents can sleep at night. Everybody wins!

3. To Make Friends & Memories

Camp is a place where relationships thrive!

Whether you have a grade-schooler attending Day Camp all summer long or a teen dropping in for an exciting week of Group Camp, students of all ages are sure to make friends and memories that will last beyond their longest goodbyes.

Some return home with old friendships strengthened, some with brand-new BFFs, while others gain a sense of belonging they’ve never known before. We have the joy of seeing many of our campers leave with arms linked, walking together toward life in Christ – and that can make all the difference during the school year, when camp feels far away.

4. To Experience Personal Growth

Camps and their programs exist for a number of purposes, but ours is uniquely this: to inspire Christ-like change through outdoor adventure, authentic relationships, and Biblical truth.

To sum it up: we get kids out of their everyday norm, into God’s creation, to encounter Biblical truths in ways that are fun and relatable, alongside their leaders and peers. Our campers are encouraged to seek spiritual growth and build tighter bonds within their community, as they learn more about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

5. To Meet Positive Role Models

Last but not least: the counselors! We can’t talk about the perks of camp without mentioning these positive role models. When it comes to summer staff, camps across the country strive to hire the best of the best – and we’re no different.

Every year, after carefully screening and interviewing many, we hire a team of outstanding, mission-minded, college-aged adults who are committed to providing the best camp experience ever. Each day they demonstrate their passion for serving God through leading by example with a cheerful demeanor. And kids can’t help but catch on.

So is camp worth it? We think so! Let us join you in the effort to bring meaningful summer experiences to your kids! Learn more about our programs here.
